On Wednesday September 2nd 2009 seventy two people sat down to dinner together in an Italian restaurant in Sheffield, these people shared a common bond.......... the past.
The people represented twenty differant families from the Italian immigrant community in west bar known as ' little Italy '.
Their ancestors had all been relatives, friends and neighbours as they began a new life in England.
The success of the evening depended on the people and 'you' didn't let me down. The connversation flowed freely between you all, as you spoke about your ancestors and made connections with the past.
These people arrived as strangers and left as friends.
To the descendants of the
Anginotti, Brentani, Buccieri, Cerrone, Costa, DelMistro, Fantozzi, Fergione, Ferri, Fontana, Franchetti, Letora, Pellegrino, Pepperoni, Rebori, Saccomando, Spina, Spinnetti, Stefanutti, Zannelli families I salute you .
You are indeed a credit to your ancestors and I am proud to call you all my friends.
To the descendants of the Cimmerelli, Civico, Cuneo, DelGiovinne, Pagiossi, Pizutti and Raffo families who were unable to make it, maybe we will see you next time.
Good food, good wine and great company...... for a few hours the West-Bar- Italian community spirit came alive again.
